Although there are four islands in the Iles d’Hyères, the main two are Ile de Porquerolles and Ile de Port-Cros . Porquerolles offers protected anchorages in almost all conditions along its sheltered north shore. Drop anchor here and enjoy the refreshing, idyllic clear blue waters, although try to drop it on a sandy patch and avoid damaging the rare sea grass fields. For just a moment, you can forget the lights and the glamour and open your eyes, upon a whole new natural world.

The islands are quaint. Most people get around on bicycles and locals still play ‘boules’ in the central square. Ile de Port Cros is a protected nature reserve with strict rules regarding the prohibition of road traffic, smoking outside the village and fishing within 50 m of shore. Although it may appear harsh, the tight rules have allowed Port Cros to remain relatively unscathed, as Porquerolles have many day tourists each summer.
