Charter Yachts available in Greece & the Ionians
The Ionian islands are a superb area to charter a boat, skippered yacht or catamaran. The Ionian Islands are a group of 7 main islands, of which the bigger one, and the more cosmopolitan, is Corfu. The lonian islands have a long and interesting history - they have been occupied by the Italian, the French and the English at different times in their rich history! As such the Islands feature a mixture of divergent civilizations and cultures which has been harmoniously welded together into one colorful entity which is undoubtedly nevertheless Greek. Although quite obviously of Greek culture and influence, the Islands are however, different to any many other areas in Greece. The green foliage of the islands is also quite uncharacteristic of Greece and is in direct contrast to the high mountains of Albania and the mainland of Greece.
As far as chartering goes in Corfu (Marina Gouvia), you can start exploring the Southern lonians in your charter yacht and sail down to the picturesque Paxos, Antipaxos, Mongonisi, Mourtos, Sivota, Parga and Preveza in the mainland, including Lefkas with its numerous ports and bays, Ithaki, Cephalonia and Zante. Alternatively, you are able to choose your departure from another base location in the lonians, in Lefkas.

In the summer, which begins in May and goes through to the end of September, the usual prevailing wind comes from the North West. It will normally arrive around noon lunch time, blows in a force 2-5 and then subsides during the sunset. In the morning it can also be common that a light Easterly wind may blow at a force of 1-2. During July-August, North West winds can blow with a little stronger than usual but overall the weather conditions in the Ionian area are extremely favorable for relaxed trouble free sailing. The area is highly recommended for family yacht charter sailing in July and August - when winds in other Greece regions are blowing stronger than in the Ionians.
This charter location area features protected waters and multitude of little safe anchorages which are only accessible by yacht. There is a lovely variety of leisurely sailing experiences which all combine to create a superbly relaxing yacht charter vacation location.
