85M EXPLORER YACHT

The 85M EXPLORER YACHT is an ultra-luxurious expedition vessel that began life in 2006 as 77m/252.7ft at the Chilean shipyard Marco Yachts, with an exterior created by Michael Leach Design. When work stalled in 2011 she was purchased by New Zealand superyacht Owner Graeme Hart and was moved to Auckland where, in 2016 she was sold still incomplete to Turkish shipyard AKYACHT, where she was renamed and received a hull extension. Her interiors come from H2 Yacht Design and provide a rich modern setting for relaxed gatherings and impressive social affairs. The accommodation sleeps a maximum of 20 guests over 11 en-suite cabins, with a professional crew of 21 on hand. The 85m explorer yacht in April 2021.

EXTERIOR

The lower deck layout has a fold-down swim platform to increase the sunbathing space close to the water. Through the beach club there is access to the main deck aft via a port stairway.

The main deck aft is used for storing the tender and water toys, with a Davit crane for their safe and easy launch and retrieval.

On the upper deck there are plentiful sunbeds to starboard and along the stern, with a Jacuzzi in the centre. There is a bar forward and along the port side, and close to the doors to the interior upper deck aft lounge are two L-shaped sofas and a grand alfresco dining table for 12.

The foredeck can be accessed via side walkways and serves a double purpose: For storing additional motorised water toys along with a Davit crane, and a helipad on the bow for guests to come and go as they please throughout the cruise.

The bridge deck has a loveseat in front of the bridge controls, and the stern section is a private terrace for the occupants of the Master suite. There is a Jacuzzi in the centre and sunbeds on both sides, plus a port seating area with a drinks table for breakfast in the fresh open air or a nightcap at sunset.

The sundeck aft is an extension of the wine and cigar lounge and can be accessed via the glass sliding doors. This area has an alfresco dining table for eight in the centre and a broad sofa/sunbed on both sides for a rest in the sunshine after a large meal.

INTERIOR

The lower deck layout places the crew accommodation, mess and laundry facilities forward with two staff cabins and a foyer amidships. This is followed by the engine room and crew areas, then aft of amidships is the spacious wellness centre. Within, there is a massage room, gym and beauty salon to port, while a hammam and lounging area are to starboard. Both sides have a fold-down terrace to increase the space beside the water and grant a greater connection to the anchorage. The beach club in the stern has a swimming pool down its centre, a wet bar in the forward port corner and a sofa along the side. The forward starboard side of the room has a corner lounge with coffee table to relax with drinks, and a pair of armchairs and a side table along the side.

On the main deck, the VIP stateroom is forward followed by the double cabins and then the main foyer with day head amidships to starboard with the galley to starboard. A large children’s playroom occupies the aft interior of the main deck.

The upper deck has three indoor loungers: The forward lounge has a symmetrical seating arrangement of two curving sofas each accompanied by a pair of armchairs and a coffee table. A games table is in the aft port corner and a grand piano aft to starboard. A second lounge is immediately behind to starboard, creating a cosy area for close conversation or reading with the convenience of drinks from the bar. The formal dining room is to port and seats all 12 guests around a grand contemporary table with atmospheric lighting from the elegant and intricate chandelier.

Aft of amidships is the foyer with day head to port and the crew areas to starboard, and the third and final lounge is aft. The offers a wet bar to port and a table to seat six behind, while the starboard side has two corner sofas arranged around a coffee table.

The bridge takes up the forward space on the bridge deck and there are two L-shaped sofas with tables for guests to use as an additional lounge. Behind to port is the Captain’s cabin and a staff double cabin, while to starboard is the Captain’s office and a twin staff cabin. All have en-suite facilities. The stairs and lift form the amidships foyer, and the Master suite is behind with direct access out on to the private terrace.

Up on the sundeck, the wine and cigar lounge is ideal for entertaining after dark. There is a fireplace for ambiance, a bar and games table, plus plenty of seating beside the windows to unwind and enjoy the views.

Twin Caterpillar 3512B engines give a top speed of 15 knots, a cruising speed of 13 knots and an exhaustive range of 8,000 nautical miles.
