Marinas for Superyachts

This page covers news updates about new marinas for superyachts around the world. With a shortage of luxury superyacht marinas and harbors it is increasingly interesting to our readers to get the latest new development plans for new superyacht marinas so that captains and yacht owners can find new places to moor their boats. There has been some important large yacht marina development over the last year and these are writen about in the various new stories below.

There is a current shortage of marinas for superyachts in most cruising areas of the world, however the Mediterranean countries of France (the French Riviera), Italy, Spain and Sardinia are increasingly in need of further yacht harbours. In some cases in the summer high season, from July & August, most yachts are forced to anchor off the large marinas and harbours because the marinas for superyachts are full and overbooked. Service and maintenance marinas like Port Vauban of Antibes, France, is particularly short of berths as are the well visited yacht charter spots like St Tropez, Capri, Portofino and the like.

Currently there are around 1000 new superyachts (private luxury crewed yachts over 80 foot in length) being built and launched every year. This number dropped during the financial crisis, for a year or two, however there are now already almost as many yachts being built as ever before. In the coming years it is likely that this number will increase every year. This currently represents about 20% more superyachts every year, yet there is nothing like that amount of new marinas and harbours being built, nor is there anywhere near that number of new yacht berths being created in the popular tourist cruising areas in the Mediterranean.

The United States, Australia, Asia and Europe also have a current shortage of marinas for superyachts and the shortage is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. Read the articles below for the latest news about marinas and harbours in these areas.
