One of the first things you’ll notice about Sorrento is its primary coloured buildings and just as colourful fishing fleet as you cruise into the port on your Amalfi Coast superyacht charter. This quaint seaside city of just over 16,000 residents originally created Limoncello liqueur and citrus fruits are as much a part of the region’s charm as the old streets behind the fortress walls, the tranquil parks and the seafood cuisine.
Sorrento is perfectly positioned for charters to multiple destinations along the Amalfi Coast and the island of Capri and Anacapri is a short cruise away. Positano, Amalfi and Salerno are located to the south east within the Lattari Mountains Regional Park, while to the north there is plenty of scenery to admire as your group cruises past Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius to the impressive labyrinthine city of Naples.
The winding coastline creates plenty of caves to explore by kayak or paddleboard, and the area around Spiaggia di Tordigliano is spotted with beaches accessible only by boat. The beautiful Baia Di Leranto is a captivating place to watch the sunset while savouring an evening meal, and guests can host their own party in a quiet anchorage away from light pollution and prying eyes.
Close to Sorrento there are a number of dive sites and fishing spots where the group can spend the afternoon discovering the thriving sea life of this area: Riviera di Marcigliano has a couple of shallow sites that even snorkelers can access close to the shore. The group has the opportunity to play on the jet skis and Seabobs every day for a burst of adrenaline before an afternoon of rest on the sunpads on board.
Around June, the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics takes place in a different city – find out if the event is on near you and add this festival to your charter itinerary.
The weather in Sorrento is warm and sunny for most of the year: Temperatures rise from 17°C/63°F in May, peaking at 24°C/75°F in July and August before returning to the former temperature in October. Rainfall is lowest from May until August and October-December is the wettest time to visit. The sea temperature begins to rise from April to reach a high of 27°C/81°F in August.
