Anacapri makes up the western half of the island of Capri and tends to be less visited than its eastern counterpart, providing luxury yacht charter groups with all the benefits of Mediterranean life without the same tourist rush during the busy summer season in July and August.
The coastline is dotted with old fortresses and stately homes, and places such as Cala Del Rio have an otherworldly beauty that makes a great anchorage for a party on board your superyacht or simply a tranquil night’s rest.
Spend the afternoon sunbathing at Cala Ventroso Beach, which is only accessible by boat, and snorkel with young children in the shallow rock pools while older members of the group play on the flyboard, kitesurfers and other impressive water toys within your superyacht storage.
Along the north side of Anacapri is the Grotta Azzurra, a limestone cave that has a bright blue light reflecting off the bottom – an effect which is at its strongest in the afternoon. Grotta Verde is on the south side and is less visited than the Grotta Azzura should you find yourself visiting in the height of summer.
On land, Majolica tiles add to the uniqueness of the whitewashed buildings and visitors often take in the intricate ‘Paradise on Earth’ floor mosaic at San Michelle Church, the exquisite gardens and sea views at Villa San Michele, and the 19th and 20th Century paintings at Casa Rossa.
The weather in Anacapri is usually warm and sunny, with an average temperature of 20°C/68°F in May and October, and July and August experiencing an average of 28C/82°F. November-March is the wettest season and the summer months of July and August are the driest with the greatest chance of a cloudless day. Visitors should bring a lightweight jacket for after sundown when the cool winds are felt more strongly.
