The ACE Yacht

Some new build superyachts remain very secret right up until their launch. The five deck yacht ACE (ex project ROCKY) with timeless exterior design which is currently being built by the German shipyard Lurssen, is one such boat.

Among several other superyachts, the famed German yacht builder Lurssen is currently constructing the huge motor yacht ACE (ex project ROCKY). Her length is somewhere between 85 and 90 metres – she was planned to be 85 metres, but some reports say she is in fact 90 metres in length and it is not unusual for yachts to ‘grow’ a little during construction.

Formerly known as Project “Flash”, the ACE yacht (ex project ROCKY) yacht is progressing well at the experienced shipyard. Yacht ACE also has a sister ship currently being built at the same yard. That yacht is also planned to be 85 metres in length and is known as project NIKI (sometimes misspelled as NICKI or NICKY).

Both the yacht’s main hull and superstructure were fabricated in the fourth quarter of 2010 and have now been joined together. This yacht shell structure has actually been launched so that the next phases of construction and fit out can begin.

M/Y ACE was built with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, as is usual for a boat of this size. She boasts an Andrew Winch yacht design which is characterised by sweeping forms, curves and lines. Located at her center line amidships on her bridge deck is a large oval form which focuses the yacht’s exterior flow.

This huge Lurssen superyacht is the ideal platform for the well known yacht designer, Andrew Winch, and his team to lay out their interior design layout. In the Words of Andrew Winch Design: “With such a sleek and timeless exterior her structure will perfectly compliment her classic interior.”

Rocky is expected to accommodate at least 12 guests and will have a large individualised owners’ deck and suite. She will also have more than 6 cabins to achieve this. At this length the superyacht will have no problem accommodating a generous number of guests in style and comfort. The yacht will also have magnificent interior communal entertainment spaces and expansive exterior areas, so she will be very well suited as a luxury charter yacht as well as a private yacht.

Located to aft on the lower deck yacht ACE features very large tender garage doors. She also has another opening in her hull which will be utilised as a tender docking area and a beach style swimming platform.
