MOON SAND

The 55.5m/182.1ft luxury yacht MOON SAND – PROJECT 13800 from German shipyard Lurssen was launched in April 2021 with exterior and interior styling by Bannenberg & Rowell and naval architecture from the shipyard. The outer appearance combines a pristine white aluminium superstructure with a matching steel hull that switches to dark grey below the waterline, creating a timeless visage that takes inspiration from the 1973 Lurssen superyacht CARINTHIA VI. The accommodation for guests and crew has yet to be revealed.

Quotes

“I once had a client who told me, “I will put your name on the side of my boat if it’s good, but if the boat is not good, your name will appear three times as big.” We were brought up with the sense that it is a very personal obligation for the family when we sign a contract to deliver a yacht that the client expects. I cannot go to a client and say “One of my guys made a mistake.” He would say “Is he Mr. Lürssen, or are you Mr. Lürssen?” But a successful delivery is also a great reward. I take the relationships of my clients very personally.” – Peter Lürssen of Lürssen Yachts (courtesy SuperYachtTimes)

‘…total originality in yacht design has become more difficult to attain following Jon Bannenberg’s masterful levels of creative daring.’ – “I don’t want to lead everything back to my dad — but it’s well known and accepted that, whether it’s his big round windows, or certain lines, or a way of treating wings on a superstructure, they all inspired many people and I think that’s fair game. I think all people’s design processes, whether subliminal or not, are recalling something — whether it’s something that’s stirred, or triggered something, or sparked an idea, or an unintentional homage to someone.” – Dickie Bannenberg talks of yacht design and his father Jon Bannenberg’s groundbreaking work.
