Breathe

Feadship Motor Yacht Breathe is the company’s 2010 yacht concept, first presented at the Monaco Yacht Show. innovative and radical motoryacht Breathe has been designed by the well known Feadship in-house design team of De Voogt Naval Architects. The yacht imitates some of nature’s finest ideas in superyacht form for the very first time to date.

The concept of the SuperYacht Breathe features innovative qualities, such as natural ventilation and cooling, the ultra-efficient wedge-like hull shape with a slender bow and wave damping aft body, the use of exterior paint that reduces resistance, the way the stabilizer blades generate more lift, the deployment of solar cells based on natural materials and the application of light tubes for daylight.

With its intelligent propulsion concept with minimal components and reduced energy consumption for both propulsion and hotel loads, motoryacht Breathe demonstrates that eco-consciousness and economic benefits can easily go hand in hand.

The design of Breathe Yachts has been based on simple and repetitive shapes found in the nature. Her designers were looking for an image that radiates unity and peace while dispensing with unnecessary elements. The glass shells on the motoryacht Breathe serve as an animal skin to protect the yacht and her guests against the weather. The regulate temperature, absorb sunlight, and offer the transparency required to stay in contact with the surroundings.

The vessel’s name Breathe refers to the natural ventilation on board, with black and white stripes of a zebra as a reference point. These stripes are there to provide variations in air temperature just above the surface of the skin, which in turn creates and air current and natural cooling systems that surrounds zebras as they swelter on the savannah. On the super yacht Breathe, the light hull and dark shells and funnels create the same natural flow of air on the outside decks. This provides a comfortable al fresco climate and requires less usage of the air conditioning.

Breathe motor yacht uses the air between the shells as an insulation layer, between the warm surrounding air and cool climate inside, just like animals use their fur for insulation. The shells have an additional role as solar cells to capture and use the energy of the sun, offering protection against sun, rain and wind.

The propulsion is features simplicity and minimum of components. In contrast to the two main engines and propeller shaft installations found on conventional yachts, Breathe MY need on one each. Breathe SY also requires only two generators, as oppose to the three required on other yachts. At the same time the Super Yacht Breathe concept guarantees a higher level of reliability and better engine load

Quotes

“Whether it’s wiring or plumbing, pipe fitting or painting, finishing or wiring, Feadship has the finest compilation of artists that I could find on my journey of discovery among the superyachts that exist today. It is all the small things that they do, the time they take to do what they do, and the extra effort that they take to make every corner, nook and cranny look great. – Review by the Owner who commissioned yacht ROCK.IT” (hull 687).

“The way we design, is we design fully custom, fully unique yachts, we start with a blank piece of paper and we start asking the client how they use the boat, what they want to do on board, what kind of experience they have but we also want input on what kind of styling they like… It’s about getting to learn about the owner and how they want to use the boat.” – Ronno Schouten, Design Manager of De Voogt Naval Architects
