PLANET NINE (ex Antarctica)

Launched in 2018 by shipbuilders NCA Carrara, 73.00m (239′ 6″) expedition yacht PLANET NINE has the naval architecture of Alberto Ascenzi and interior styling from international designer Tim Heywood. The accommodation sleeps up to 12 guests across 8 cabins.

NOTABLE FEATURES OF PLANET NINE:

  • Helicopter with refuelling hangar
  • Steam room and sauna
  • State-of-the-art cinema
  • Observation lounge, library and salon
  •  915m²/3,000ft² owner's deck

EXTERIOR

The main deck has side decks, room for large tender storage and a podium deck to the stern where guests can sit outside in the C-shaped seating and observe the wildlife up close. Two broad staircases connect to the swim platform where guests can access the tenders or head inside to the beach club which in turn connects to the guest accommodation.

The upper deck aft has an outdoor lounge consisting of two sofas and coffee tables close to the doors to the interior salon, plus a long sofa and sunpads between the steps leading up to the stern helipad. When the helicopter is stored in the hangar, the space can be used for sunbathing, observation or for entertaining. The Portuguese deck on the bow has a large C-shaped sofa plus two small tables for informal alfresco dining and as a place to rest drinks while socialising and taking in the surroundings.

The bridge deck has a private aft terrace for the occupants of the VIP stateroom to sit or lie outside in the fresh sea breezes. A walkway wraps around the entire deck so that guests do not miss an opportunity to get the best angle for such activities as whale-watching.

The sundeck has the best views on board and treats guests to plenty of outdoor sunbathing options with sun loungers to the aft and sunpads encompassing the forward Jacuzzi. Guests can remain on the deck all day long with the shaded central area providing a place to dine alfresco, with a lift connecting all floors for quick and easy access to accommodation on the lower decks.

INTERIOR

The lower deck is home to the guest accommodation, which consists of six VIP staterooms with en-suite facilities and a twin cabin ideal for staff. While the forward section contains the crew mess and accommodation, the area to the stern is easily accessible by guests and contains a large starboard-side steam room and lounge with a sea terrace, while the port-side holds a tender and toys, which are launched via a side hatch. The Beach club in the stern opens out onto a spacious swim platform where guests can relax and connect to each visited environment.

The majority of the main deck is dedicated to the owner and offers almost 915m²/3,000ft² of private rooms, among which there are two cabins (one doubling as a lounge), a generously sized salon, a dressing room, an office as well as en-suite facilities. To the aft of the owner’s area is the helicopter hangar which has refuelling capabilities, while the bow holds the cinema which can be accessed by other guests via staircases separate to the owner’s apartment.

Most of the shared indoor guest space is located on the upper deck, where this is a grand forward observation lounge with windows running along three of the walls. The dark wooden panelling creates a sophisticated and laid-back ambience where guests can play board games together or socialise while seated in the comfortable armchairs and sofas.

The internet lounge and library on the starboard side offers a cosy room for close conversation and a quiet workspace. To the aft, the main salon has a brighter, lighter colour scheme using pale wood in the panelling and natural furnishings. Floor-to-ceiling windows and glass sliding doors on both sides and to the aft open the space up to the elements for a the feeling of a sheltered winter garden. The formal dining area seats up to 12 guests and the nearby bar has an excellent selection of spirits for an aperitif or nightcap.

The bridge deck hosts the forward helm station, Captain’s cabin, technical spaces and a final generous aft VIP stateroom which comes with its own walk-in wardrobe and en-suite facilities. Large windows ensure plenty of light and excellent aft views.

Quotes

“Since yacht design is highly competitive, you could be forgiven for thinking that there might be some animosity between designers. But that notion is far from reality. I am blessed with being able to count on some of the world’s leading designers as close friends, among them Tim Heywood, with whom we have collaborated on various large motor yacht projects, including the award winners Pelorus, Ice and Kogo.” – “Creatively, Tim is afraid of nothing and will often conceptualise ideas that bewilder shipyards.” – Terence Disdale speaking of Tim Heywood, the designer of this yacht.

“In fifty years the ADMIRAL brand has became a landmark in international yachting for yachts, super yachts and mega yachts, synonymous with style, creativity, quality and design.” – Admiral Yachts
