Residents of Coronado Cayβs upscale development, Trinidad Village, in Southern California,Β USAΒ have recently traded in their 35 year old docks for modern concrete floating docks.
Trinidad Village Docks, Inc. (TVDI) hired world renowned marina builder, Bellingham Marine, to move forward with a major renovation of their docks in 2008. Plans called for a complete overhaul including new docks and anchoring, upgraded utilities and a new layout.Β Prior to the renovation, the residential docks at Trinidad Village were owned by TVDI and featured a common walkway where all fingers were attached.Β The new configuration privatized each of the individual docks and resulted in a number of features the homeowners required: more berths, separate docks for each home, and a reduction in the marinaβs overwater coverage (shading). The benefits to homeowners included private docks with increased safety, two slips per home and the benefits to environmental health from opening more of the water space.
Additional features included personal dock boxes, individual electric power centers complete with fresh water and two 30-amp receptacles and a safety swim ladder supplied by Up and Out. Β 33 aluminum gangways were also supplied for the project to provide individual homes with private access to their dock.
The project also called for complete replacement of TVDIβs ten docks adjacent to a common area.Β These docks were replaced with βlike kindβ slips featuring Bellingham Marineβs Unifloat technology, and they are being made available to other residents.
βThis was a unique project for us,β remarked Ammon Riordan, Project Supervisor for Bellingham Marine.Β βAlmost all of the docks were custom in some fashion.Β Many of the docks were uniquely shaped with varying gangway orientations and pedestal placements.Β Some even had a sloped surface for dragging kayaks up onto the dock.β
Bellinghamβs scope of work included design, engineering, labor, materials and installation for all components of the project.Β βThis was a large and complex project that required close coordination among the homeowners, TVDIβs Board of Directors, our project manager and Bellinghamβs skilled and experienced personnel,β remarked RG Head, representative for TVDI.Β βEach of the homeowners is proud that we have persevered through the dense set of administrative, community, regulatory, engineering and construction hurdles. At every step of the way, we were aided and assisted by Bellinghamβs managers and engineers.β
RG added, βWe are glad that we chose Bellingham for this project, and all of us are immensely proud of the high quality docks they have built.Β Key individuals involved in the construction in addition to Ammon Riordan include Jim Puder, General Manager of Bellinghamβs Southwestern Division and Paul Buckley, TVDIβs Project Manager.β
Trinidad Village is perfectly situation on two channels of San Diego Bay in the heart of Coronado Cays.Β Each homeowner has private access to a boat dock of his own design and to his own requirements.Β The community also features a clubhouse with shared dock access for residents and their guests.
