PELORUS

Motor yacht PELORUS is one of the largest luxurious mega yacht in the world, measuring 115 metre in length over all (377 feet). PELORUS superyacht was built by the German shipyard Lurssen in Bremen, Germany and launched in 2003. She was designed by the acclaimed yacht design Tim Heywood and Terence Disdale for interiors, featuring all the luxuries that can be expected from a yacht of this size.

PELORUS yacht was fitted with two Wartsila 5,500 hp 12V26 engines that power her up to a maximum speed of 19 knots, allowing her to cruise at a comfortable speed of 12 to 14 knots. Pelorus is a very private yacht and there is little known about her interior or other particular details from aboard. We know that she has a number of yacht tenders for her owner, guests and the crew to use, as well as a large garage full of various water toys for their pleasure.

It is believed that there is a crew of about 46 on board, making sure everything runs smoothly and guests are happy all the time. One of the main features of the luxury mega yacht PELORUS is the top deck ‘lido’ that boasts two swimming pools and a large sea-level platform created once the transom is open. This area provides for excellent access to the water and a great ‘beach area’ to relax and enjoy the many water toys on offer. PELORUS superyacht also has two helicopter pads for easy access by her owner or guests.

The Owner’s suite features a private deck which cannot be viewed from other areas of the yacht, and one of the guest rooms boasts a particular wall that lowers to create a verandah.

The entire interior was designed by Terence Disdale, who came up with a welcoming beach house atmosphere, using natural materials throughout.

Quotes

“Since yacht design is highly competitive, you could be forgiven for thinking that there might be some animosity between designers. But that notion is far from reality. I am blessed with being able to count on some of the world’s leading designers as close friends, among them Tim Heywood, with whom we have collaborated on various large motor yacht projects, including the award winners Pelorus, Ice and Kogo.” – “Creatively, Tim is afraid of nothing and will often conceptualise ideas that bewilder shipyards.” – Terence Disdale speaking of Tim Heywood, the designer of this yacht.

“I once had a client who told me, “I will put your name on the side of my boat if it’s good, but if the boat is not good, your name will appear three times as big.” We were brought up with the sense that it is a very personal obligation for the family when we sign a contract to deliver a yacht that the client expects. I cannot go to a client and say “One of my guys made a mistake.” He would say “Is he Mr. Lürssen, or are you Mr. Lürssen?” But a successful delivery is also a great reward. I take the relationships of my clients very personally.” – Peter Lürssen of Lürssen Yachts (courtesy SuperYachtTimes)
