Royal Denship shipyard, now located in the Netherlands is seeing a come back, following its bankruptcy a few years back. The company has announced that it has started construction on the new RD 137 EXPEDITION yacht, a 123-foot displacement motor yacht designed by Kroes & Poortinga BV, in addition to another 24-metre vessel already in build.

The company is renown for such motor yachts as the 78,60-metre PEGASUS VIII (ex PRINCESS MARIANA) and the 63-metre TURMOIL, that were constructed by Royal Denship in Denmark.

The new 42-metre Royal Denship will feature exterior styling by Kroes & Pooringa who have taken inspiration from the warships of the past, bringing together practicality and function. “These vessels again underline that simplicity and architecture in its purest form is often aesthetically more pleasing than simply ‘adding form’, these vessels are ultimate examples of ‘form follows function’.” said Kroes & Pooringa

RD 137 Expedition will be built in steel and aluminium, and is due to be delivered in 2017. She will be fitted with two 500kwh engines that should allow her to reach a maximum speed of 14 knots and cruise at 11 knots. Her expected range is of 4000 nautical miles.

The other yacht, the 24-metre Royal Denship currently under construction is due to be delivered in March 2016.
