An interactive session within the marina stream at the upcoming Marine15 International conference and Trade Exhibition will use learning from the airline industry to highlight the importance of focusing on marina berth yield as opposed to occupancy. The event will take place from May 3 to 5 on the Gold Coast, a beautiful Australia yacht charter destination.

Marine15 Committee Chairman Jeff d’Albora said the marina industry can learn a valuable lesson from the airline industry. “The airlines found out that chasing occupancy without growing yield was a pathway to failure. It is important that marinas understand the difference between occupancy and yield and have strategies and systems in place to grow the yield from their limited boat storage spaces,” he said.

Presenters of this session will be Richard Johnson, Chief Financial Officer at the publicly listed company Ardent Leisure that includes the d’Albora Marina group and Darren Vaux, Director of the Marina Hall of Fame winner Empire Marina Bobbin Head. Darren Vaux said the topic was very important for the marina industry and delegates will be challenged to consider if they are most effectively profiting from their boat storage assets.

The session will be one of 12 dedicated marina topics that will be interspersed with five joint marina/boating business sessions and five plenary sessions. Marina delegates can also choose to attend any of the other 25 sessions from the boating business or marine safety streams.
