It was a pleasant surprise to see sailing yacht Summerwind, a beautiful 100-foot Alden schooner, recently tied up to the Herreshoff Museum dock in Bristol, Rhode Island, USA. Originally launched by the C.A. Morse yard in Maine (now Lyman-Morse) in 1929, luxury yacht Summerwind was re-launched under new ownership this summer, featuring the new GMT carbon spars to match her GMT carbon Pocket booms.

Superyacht Summerwind had an active season in New England. First as a support vessel for the annual NYYC race in June, followed shortly after with her own race in the Marblehead to Halifax race, and then some cruising.
Passing by the museum, you would never guess Summerwind yacht had a high tech carbon rig. With the “faux bios” finish on both masts and booms to match Sitka spruce, she looks a true classic. The new rig tuned up great, and Summerwind’s first sail from Baltimore to Newport went with out a hitch. It takes a lot of planning and precision to fit a rig like this, especially using a mix of existing and new rigging components. It’s the kind of service and quality GMT loves bringing to a job.
