The end of April was marked by the launch of the 43,9m sloop Encore yacht, built by Alloy Yachts. Having installed a full Doyle inventory on their previous superyacht, sailing yacht Encore’s owners once again commissioned a full inventory of Doyle sails, comprising a Stratis main, genoa, blade, as well as staysail. After successful sea trials, Encore was handed over to her new owners in June.

The Encore yacht project saw another successful collaboration between Doyle and Southern Spars: the mainsail uses a new scaled down version of the Southern Spars car system that was installed on superyacht Kokomo. Richard Bouzaid, Head of Design at Doyle Sails NZ, worked closely with the Southern Spars design team on fine-tuning the set up procedures versus the flying sail design shapes.
Doyle’s investment in world-leading design programmes means that the company can replicate sails in a simulation situation at the design process stage which allows them to highly accurately predict what will happen in the real world on board the boat before commencing sail construction.
“Encore’s sails are fantastic,” said Chris McMaster, MD of Doyle Sails NZ. “The sails fitted the boat perfectly straight out of the bag, with no alterations needed. The yacht and sails performed above our high expectations and we are looking forward to seeing her in action.”
