Following the publication of the Coalition Government’s programme in the Queen’s Speech today, The British Marine Federation (BMF) welcomes the measures to help small businesses through these tough economic times.

Rob Stevens, Chief Executive of the BMF said: “The BMF welcomes the reversal of the rise in employers’ National Insurance Contributions. At a time of economic hardship and high unemployment we hope that this measure will encourage businesses to take on more staff and grow their business.”
“It is crucial that small businesses continue to get the support they need. In our role as the representative body for the marine industry we provide a crucial link between businesses and government bodies that provide financial and technical support.”
“We have worked very successfully with the South West Regional Development Agency via the joint employment of a regional manager, who has built links between the marine sector and the development agency, helping businesses gain access to the advice and funding they need. This project has demonstrated how the private and public sector can work effectively together and achieve great results for local businesses. However, we understand that in a time of economic uncertainty it is crucial that resources are used efficiently and reach the individuals and businesses that need them the most. We hope to continue our role in supporting businesses in the marine sector, working in partnership with public bodies and authorities. We look forward to discussions on this in the coming months.”
