Beginning on March 8, the International Yacht Restoration School will host a series of evening lectures that will focus on books on great yachts and great adventures. During this four-part “Readers’ Series” lecture-goers will be drawn into the fascinating stories of the makings of great yachts, both grand and modest, and the adventures that are had on board.
Westport has launched the latest Westport 164 series motor yacht Wabi Sabi. The yacht features exterior styling and interior design by Donald Starkey with naval architecture by William Garden. Yacht Wabi Sabi was built under hull number 5008 and is the 8th yacht in the American yard Westport’s 164 range.
The giant America’s Cup-winning trimaran arrived in the Bay today aboard the freighter M.V. Star Isfjord after a 7,900-mile passage from Valencia, Spain, via the Panama Canal. The ship carrying USA 17 trimaran passed underneath the Golden Gate Bridge at 0530 PST and berthed alongside San Francisco’s Pier 80 at 0650.
Aquariva Gucci received acknowledgement from the Nautical Design Awards panel of judges during a gala evening in Miami on 18th February organised by Yacht & Sail and ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale – Association for Industrial Design). The exclusive model, created as a result of the partnership between Riva, Ferretti Group brand, and Gucci, was celebrated as a highly successful project developed through the working relationship between two historical Italian brands.
After navigating through rough waters for several years, the marine industry is beginning to push forward on the throttle, according to survey results released today by GE Capital, Commercial Distribution Finance (CDF) from the Miami International Boat Show. More than one-third of respondents (38%) expect sales to increase up to five percent in 2011, and 54% said that the best time for dealers to increase inventory levels is now.

Commission, in collaboration with UCINA (Italian Marine Industry Association) awarded Sanlorenzo with the Nautical Design Award, recognition that the Italian shipyard distinguished itself by its efforts in promoting the “Made in Italy” brand in the USA.

The Viking display at the Miami Yacht and Brokerage Show featured 14 motor yacht models from 42 to 82 feet and was one of the most visited exhibits with 4,800 registered guests, a 50 percent increase over last year’s totals. Six Vikings were sold, including two 76 Convertible motor yachts, a 70 Convertible, two 60 Convertibles, and a 66 Convertible, a brand new model announced at the show.
Trinity Yachts launched their latest 60m superyacht Areti on the 15th of September. Motor yacht Areti was built under the hull name T043 and was code named Mine Games. The yacht will now undergo the next stage of finishing and preparation for sea trials before being delivered to her owner(s) which is expected to be in time for the 2011 summer.
Twelve marine products were honored for innovative achievement by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Boating Writers International (BWI) at the 70th annual Miami International Boat Show & Strictly Sail Miami. Eleven companies took home the prestigious boating industry 2011 Innovation Award and one the Honorable Mention during NMMA’s State of the Recreational Boating Industry Breakfast, held this morning at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
