The famous 100ft sailing yacht Wild Oats XI is going for an unprecedented eighth line honours in what is the 70th anniversary edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. The final sea trial for the yacht and crew is planned to run on Christmas Eve.
The highly experienced crew of the 30m Supermaxi yacht Wild Oats XI is currently preparing for next week’s Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. The vessel’s final ocean trials will be conducted off Sydney this weekend.
Andrea Francolini is the photographer, who has been with the 100-foot Supermaxi yacht Wild Oats XI for a decade. On Boxing Day this year, Andrea will be at the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race as official photographer for Bob Oatley’s Wild Oats XI.
The most successful yacht to have contested the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race in its 70 year history, the 100-foot Supermaxi yacht Wild Oats XI is out of the water for a final modification.

The upcoming nine months will see the Bob Oatley’s supermaxi yacht Wild Oats XI participate in the 70th anniversary Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December 2014, as well as the Transpac Race from Los Angeles to Honolulu in July 2015.
This year’s 70th anniversary Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will host its largest line-up of yachts in a decade. A total number of 119 vessels will attend the race, including the all-new 100ft superyacht Comanche.
This week saw the recently launched 100-foot maxi racing yacht COMANCHE by Hodgdon start her first sea trials in Newport, Rhode Island. She is expected to make her racing premiere at the 2014 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
