Saturday, June 1, 2013, saw the world’s largest solar boat, PlanetSolar, reached her first 2013 American stopover – Miami, marking the launch of the “PlanetSolar DeepWater” scientific expedition.
The world’s largest solar boat, PlanetSolar, has set a new world record for a solar-powered transatlantic crossing. Having left Las Palmas in Spain on April 25, PlanetSolar reached St. Martin in French West Indies on May 18.
Bouregreg Marina in the centre of Rabat in Morocco is currently hosting the world’s largest solar boat PlanetSolar, as the first port of call for its 2013 solar campaign.
Today, March 26, marks the start of the 2013 solar campaign for the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar, the world’s largest solar boat.
The largest solar boat ever built, the MS Tûranor PlanetSolar was successfully re-launched in La Ciotat today, following over 6 months of maintenance and optimization. Its 2013 solar campaign will be officially launched in Monaco on March 18.
It is a very busy period for the Monaco Marine shipyard in La Ciotat, with 18 yachts on site. These include such spectacular vessels as the 74m mega yacht Ilona.
Preparing for her 2013 solar campaign, the La Ciotat shipyard is currently hosting the M/S Turanor PlanetSolar for annual maintenance, following her successful Mediterranean promotional summer tour.
Constructed in Germany, the 35m solar powered yacht MR TURANOR PlanetSolar has a new mission following her 19-month world tour: she will act as a mobile ambassador of solar energy in the Mediterranean Sea during this summer.
The world´s largest solar ship ever constructed, the catamaran yacht MS Tûranor PlanetSolar is the first vehicle to have completed its tour around the world, entirely run by solar energy. During its tour, this highly innovative vessel also achieved the Guinness World Records™ for ‘fastest crossing of the South China sea by solar power ‘as well as the ‘fastest crossing of the Atlantic by solar power’.
