Renovation work is underway at Westhaven Marina located in downtown Auckland, New Zealand. The marina is replacing 106 of its berths with modern concrete floating pontoons. Bellingham Marine New Zealand was awarded the design/build contract for the project in December 2010. According to the company, crews arrived on site on March 13th, and the project is expected to be completed in July.

Work is progressing rapidly on the first stage of Wynyard Quarter’s revitalisation on Auckland’s waterfront, which will be complete in time for the Rugby World Cup 2011. It includes North Wharf, Jellicoe Street, Wynyard Crossing, Gateway Plaza, the Viaduct Events Centre and Silo Park.
On the 22nd of February at 12.51pm, a shallow earthquake of 6.3 magnitude, rocked Christchurch, New Zealand, leaving the city devastated. With the need to help the many affected by the disaster apparent, the superyacht community in New Zealand rallied. On Thursday night in Auckland a fundraiser, organized by YachtAid Global and Superyacht Support Ltd saw around $55,000 raised for the cause.
The New Zealand marine industry is deeply grateful for the generosity, sympathy and support they have received from around the world since the Christchurch earthquake of 22 February 2011. The earthquake was confined to Christchurch and Lyttelton, and many businesses there are already back up and running. New Zealand remains open for business and tourism, and appreciates the support of our international and domestic partners in their continued support with ongoing trading relationships.
