Since 2001 Burgess Marine has been the Port of Cherbourg’s primary partner in respect of the Rolls-Royce Syncrolift facility in Cherbourg. The facility (90m x 32m) comfortably caters for vessels over 90 metres in length and offers a 4500 tonnes lift capacity. Having for many years utilised the facility in the support of High Speed Craft, operated by Condor Ferries and Brittany Ferries, Burgess Marine now intends to expand its commercial activities on site in the support of both Superyachts and UK based Coasters and Dredgers.

The facility, the largest Syncrolift in the region, is ideally located just 75 miles from Southampton and Portsmouth, 70 miles from Portland, and just 135 miles from the busy Dover Straits.

Mr Nicholas Warren, the Managing Director of Burgess Marine comments “having been in the marine engineering refit and repair business for over 20 years, and here in Cherbourg for nine, this seems the natural evolution for our business. Recent trends show that there are many more Superyachts either in the region, or transiting through the region, and naturally we‟re keen to attract those vessels to Cherbourg for planned or emergency refits, repairs and renewals works”.

Burgess Marine have had a year of successes; having completed and excelled with regard to work packages onboard motoryacht BYSTANDER  , sailing yacht INFINITY the J Class sailing yacht VELSHEDA, and a 40m Aluminium new-build superyacht.

Mr Warren goes on to say “we’re looking forward to the upcoming refit season and 2011 with optimism. This year we’ve supported Pendennis with regards to the supply of coded, skilled Aluminium welders and fabricators, and I’m keen to achieve two further things 1) to support all Superyacht yards as best is possible with regards to sub con Aluminium and Steel work packages, and medium and high speed diesel works, and 2) expand and build on our commercial partnerships with the likes of Pendennis, Southampton Yacht Services and Trimline”.
