Nautor’s Swan announced the launch of the new flagship, the high-performance maxi sailing yacht SKORPIOS that measures 42.62m/139.9ft and is the first hull in a new series from ClubSwan that is designed for racing.

According to Nautor’s Swan Vice President Enrico Chieffi, the brief initially called for an extremely fast superyacht capable of inshore racing. However, as the project developed, she evolved to become a record-breaking vessel for offshore racing, able to surpass all monohull records across the world.

Juan Kouyoumdijan is the naval architect behind the project, and the technology will ensure performance and manoeuvrability: Carbon fibre prepreg with Nomex and Corecell cores is used for the hull, superstructure and decks to reduce weight, further complemented by a deep draught canting keel. One of the most unique characteristics of S/Y SKORPIOS is her asymmetrical rotating C-foil that was developed to give vertical lift, reduce her displacement and enter a skimming position. While sailing at high speeds the twin rudders provide excellent responsiveness.

S/Y SKORPIOS is currently north of Jakobstad in the Gulf of Bothnia and will soon be sailing to take part in prestigious events in the sailing calendar: She is expected to arrive in the UK in late July in preparation for her first race, the Rolex Fastnet Race, where she will be the largest monohull ever entered and one of 450 participants.
