Earlier this week Heesen revealed more details on 80m/262ft superyacht PROJECT COSMOS, one of its largest builds to date and the fastest in her class.

Project Cosmos – exterior

The brief called for speed and size along with the aesthetic of a modern-day sports car. To meet these objectives while employing aluminium in the build, Heesen created new methods to add longitudinal strength without further weighing down the entire structure, resulting in the new patent ‘The Backbone’, which has a design similar to that of the I girder, which cannot be bent like a flat beam.

To create a contemporary appearance inside and out, award-winning designers Winch Design and Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design worked on her exteriors and interiors respectively, the latter having worked with Heesen on the interiors of 70m/230ft luxury yacht GALACTICA SUPER NOVA.

Winch Design focused on emphasising the sleek exterior lines while maintaining the proportions unique to Heesen’s DNA. Among the exterior amenities is a 270m²/2906ft² sun deck, a flush foredeck that can be used as a heli-deck and an alfresco cinema, a 7m/23ft glass-bottom swimming pool fed by a waterfall from the deck above, a sizeable beach club containing a sunken walk-around bar with onyx panels and a port-side platform as well as a transom door.

The interiors take inspiration from the textures and forms of nature, such as the Fibonacci sequence spirals found in shells and plants like aloe vera. The volume is further emphasised by plenty of glass, natural illumination and optimised ceiling heights that are contrasted by a myriad of high-quality finishes including back-lit onyx, crystal glass panels, silk carpets, straw marquetry, natural leather wall panelling, hard-wood flooring and stainless steel. The glass and stainless steel spiral staircase makes an impressive centrepiece around the lift (elevator) to impress visitors as they arrive via the foyer.

Motor yacht PROJECT COSMOS will use the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) to reach a speed of 29 knots and will be fitted with four MTU engines to drive two controllable pitch propellers that handle the 19,000 horse power.

PROJECT COSMOS will be able to accommodate up to 12 guests over six en-suite cabins, including a four lower-deck guest suites, a Master suite on the main deck forward and a VIP stateroom on the bridge deck that has its own private studio. A crew of 19 will be accommodated over 11 cabins to ensure that everything runs smoothly while cruising.
