Carcelle becomes only the third French citizen to receive the award. The others are Bernard Lapasset, chairman of the International Rugby Board and Bruno Troublé, spokesman for Louis Vuitton and the World Sailing Team’s Association.

The title recognizes those persons who in any field of endeavour have rendered meritorious service to the Crown and the nation of New Zealand.

Carcelle was made a member of the order for his work in bringing the Louis Vuitton Trophy Pacific Series and the Louis Vuitton Trophy to New Zealand and promoting New Zealand to the international sailing world.

“This is really for our company that has demonstrated its love for sailing and the America’s Cup for so many years,” Carcelle said. “I accept it for all at Louis Vuitton who have made this wonderful collaboration possible.
