Recreational boating and light commercial marine industries associations around Australia have united to form the Boating Industries Alliance. The Alliance is the peak industry body for the Australian boating industry, with a new charter and funding model that will enable it to deliver improved national outcomes for its members.

On the 7th July The Yacht Harbour Association organized an event where 41 members, including the British Marine Federation President Alan Morgan, met to see the spectrum of marina developments. The meeting was held in the Norfolk Broads.
The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) have been awarded a grant by the Australian government to host a total of 6 Seminars to concentrate on “Driving innovation through the adoption of new technologies” to ensure businesses continue to thrive and survive.
The British Marine Federation (BMF) and the RYA were delighted to be among the first organisations to host a reception in the House of Commons early in the new Parliament yesterday (23 June 2010). It was an opportunity to meet some of the newly elected MPs as well as to thank re-elected parliamentarians for their support throughout the year. The recent election saw a large increase of new MPs entering Parliament and the reception allowed the BMF and RYA to educate and inform many of them on the £3 billion marine industry; highlighting its considerable contribution to the economy.
Due in the UAE on July 1 the new superyacht registration code will apply only to privately owned yachts — not superyachts active in the charter market – and is expected to be the most specific code as yet for superyachts which so far have not had enjoyed their own independent classification. In contrast under the new UAE yacht code superyacht will have their own specific category.
In the frame of UCINA – SATEC’s annual meeting held in Genoa the 28th and 29th of May, the “Boating Pioneer 2010” award was awarded to Gianni Zuccon, well known designer of many and famous yachts.

The use and carriage of flares as distress signals at sea has changed as more robust and technologically advanced alternatives have developed. As a result the RYA has revised its advice to mariners regarding the carriage and use of flares in combination with more modern alerting methods such as EPIRB’s and VHF DSC.
This year, for the first time, the regatta forms part of the high profile 2010 Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge Series, which as well as the Cowes event, features some of the world’s leading classic yacht regattas, including the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta and the Régates Royale, Cannes.
