May 12 will see the start of the City of Venice Trophy – an invitational regatta organised by the yacht club Venice Compagnia della Vela, offering €50,000 in prize money to its winner. The club has launched this new, two-day event to mark a nine-day festival celebrating the Venice AC World Series that run from May 17-20.

April 28 brought very difficult weather conditions for sailors competing in the 2012 Yachting World Round Antigua Race. Due to strong winds, there were several retirements, including Allyn Salomon’s Beneteau Oceanis 473 sailing yacht Hermosita as well as South African Jan Rupert entry, Tripp 75 Blackbird yacht. Farr 115 charter yacht Sojana has received the Yachting World Trophy for the fastest monohull around the course, finishing the race in 4 hours, 50 mins and 46 seconds.
Day 14 of the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race saw all ten teams completing the Ocean Sprint phase of Race 10 to Panama, with the overall winner – the American team, New York, successfully reaching the finish line in 31 hours 57 minutes and 56 seconds at 13:20:22 UTC yesterday.
Strong winds arrived today in the fabulous Caribbean yacht charter location – Antigua – playing host to this year´s Antigua Sailing Week. Today´s Guadeloupe to Antigua Race has been won by Verlarde’s NM92 sailing yacht Locura, followed by Stephen Schmidt’s Santa Cruz 70 yacht Hotel California Too, taking second place and the Dufour 45 yacht Triskell placing 3rd. Ross Applebey’s Oyster 48 yacht Scarlet Oyster has won the Racing Division of the ARC.
Hundreds of fans and dignitaries gathered up to celebrate the signing of the agreement for the City of San Francisco to host the America’s Cup in 2013.
Half of the fleet brought to the end the Ocean Sprint on Day 14 of the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race, with Geraldton Western Australia setting new time to beat in the Ocean Sprint.
