Sailors of all stripes, from near and far, are making plans to congregate on the blue waters of the Caribbean for the 31st edition of the largest, best, most unique sailing event in the islands: the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. The traditional kick-off to the racing season, including the Gill Commodores Cup—the one-day match racing series prior to the three-day St. Maarten Heineken Regatta—is scheduled for March 3-6.
Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas have been named on Frommer’s Best Cruise Ships of 2011 list. In particular, the market leader in travel guides and a branded imprint of Wiley Publishing, Inc. cited Allure of the Seas as the newest and most groundbreaking ship with “undoubtedly the best entertainment ship at sea, with truly exceptional programming for both adults and kids.”
Lloyd’s Register’s teams in China and Korea have established a strong position in terms of ships ordered in 2010 which will be built to Lloyd’s Register class. Lloyd’s Register’s share of 2010 orders is, respectively, 29.6% in China and 28.3% in Korea.* While orders are from traditional areas of strength such as Greece, the continued expansion of ship owning in Asia is also driving demand.
France has published a change in its VAT law and policy relating to commercial vessels. Published as Article 70 of Law No 2010-1658 of 29 December 2010 amending Article 262 of the unified French Tax Code, the Code Général des Impôts, the change now limits VAT exemption only to those commercial vessels operating on the high seas.

The Island Sailing Club (ISC), organisers of the famous J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, has announced that entries for this year’s 80th Anniversary Race will open on Friday January 21st. The Race is taking place on Saturday 25th June with the first start at 0600.
