Duncan Swanson, co-founder and principal of Oceanskies said, “It is great to have Adrian joining the team at Oceanskies. Since our launch in January of this year we are pleased to say that we have enjoyed considerable growth. Adrian brings a practical dynamic of vessel handling and operation to the team which serves to strengthen and broaden our ‘in house’ knowledge and expertise”.

Tom Becker, co-founder of Oceanskies added, “With the advent of MLC this summer and the recent launch of our fully MLC certified offshore yacht crew employment and payroll division Adrian’s appointment is particularly timely.”

Coming from a seafaring family, Adrian’s nautical experience and passion was well established at an early age.

After completing full time education Adrian trained as a Marine Pilot and qualified in 1990 as Captain of commercial vessels, navigating the challenging waters of the Channel Islands for over 10 years.

As a former Captain of commercial vessels, Adrian has complete understanding of the International Marine Organisation’s MARPOL and SOLAS conventions, the International Safety Management Code and the International Labour Organisation’s Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006).

Adrian’s 20+ years marine operational and technical knowledge base is supplemented by a thorough understanding of yacht compliance, flag and classification matters allowing him to give high level guidance for yacht support and technical compliance. He is also the holder of  a Lloyd’s Maritime Diploma in Port Management.

Adrian’s knowledge and experience lead him to the voluntary role of Deputy Coxswain of Guernsey’s all weather lifeboat and marine ambulance.

Prior to joining Oceanskies, Adrian headed up Safehaven International’s marine team, and was actively involved with yacht compliance and crew support including crew planning, provision of crew medical insurance, crew processing and evaluation, crew accounting, payroll/allotments and crew travel.

Having trained as a commercial diver Adrian is experienced in risk assessment, risk analysis, and specialises in safety management.

Drawing on legal requirements, regulatory guidance and best practices from safety management experience, Adrian, upon request, can create a bespoke safety management programme that will stimulate innovative thought and new approaches to safety management on board any yacht.
