The longevity as well as permanent development of the Pendennis Apprenticeship scheme has not only improved the quality of Pendennis’ in-house trades but contributed to an important improvement in the ability to source in-house skilled labour for projects. The major part of trainees have been recruited as permanent employees following their course, expanding the talent pool in all aspects of the business comprising administration, paint, fabrication, engineering, exterior outfit and interior finishing departments. Some apprentices have been promoted through the business, comprising those that now boast senior positions within the company.

The Pendennis scheme not only trains young people in all aspects of the superyacht industry, but also builds strong ties with the local area, with apprentices tackling many community projects as part of their skill development. Pendennis’ fabrication apprentices have recently completed renovations work to balcony railings in the Seven Stars pub in Falmouth, working alongside A&P, Falmouth, to renovate steelwork in this iconic Falmouth pub.

Now in the 13th year, the Pendennis Apprenticeship scheme has been rewarded with numerous accolades over the years. In recognition of its high standards Pendennis is proud to announce that they have been presented with the ‘Large Employer of the Year’ Award for the South West, and will now go on to represent the region in the National Awards.

The National Apprenticeship service organises these annual awards to celebrate the success of apprenticeship schemes throughout the UK. Tristan Jones, Joinery Manager, who trained through the Pendennis Apprenticeship scheme, was also presented with a ‘Highly Commended’ award after being shortlisted as a finalist in the City & Guilds Apprenticeship Champion of the Year, South West.
