The Audi Azzurra Sailing Team finished the 39th edition of the Trofeo Conde de Codo, the opening event of the 52 Super Series gaining the same number of points as Quantum. Sharing the victory, the teams will compete on equal terms at the Audi Sardinia Cup, second event of the season, held next June in Porto Cervo.

A tie and the ball back at the center of the field, in soccer terms. Azzurra dominated the Trofeo de Vela Conde de Godó at the beginning, Quantum during the final part. The two yachts, therefore, finish the event on equal points and will meet on absolutely equal terms at the Audi Sardinia Cup, second event of the TP52 season. Quantum Racing claims victory at the Catalan regatta on countback, thanks her three bullets, against the two scored by Azzurra. Today, May 27th, the very light and fluky breeze forced the race committee to call the day off, leaving the overall leaderboard unchanged from yesterday.
“We are happy – stated Checco Bruni, tactician onboard Azzurra – it has been a positive regatta for us, the new boat sails very well even if she hasn’t reached 100% of her potential, we still have margin for improvement. We are happy with the way we sailed and we can foresee a tough battle coming up for the rest of the season and without any doubt it will be very exciting.”
The final comment comes from the skipper, Guillermo Parada, beaming because tomorrow he will become father for the second time: “Of course it would have been better if we were able to race today, but the forecast was for light winds and we were expecting it. Last year, here in Barcelona, we didn’t have our best result, but this time it really was much better. We are now tied with Quantum, and we will meet them again in June at the YCCS, Azzurra’s home and ours, in Porto Cervo “.
The Audi Sardinia Cup, counting as Challenge Trophy for national teams composed by one TP52 and one Soto 40, will also count towards the European Soto 40 Championship and will be the second event of the 52 Super Series.
